THE SOUND OF RIFLE SHOTS ANDsound of rifle shots and s voices lead her to believe she is being hunted The kindness of stranger saves her and he shelters her for the night in an empty groundskeeper s cabin on the edge of a cemetery Alone in the cabin she sees the ghost of a young woman who appears to be bleeding from her head standing outside her window By morning the only clues she has concerning her past are her name Keira her worn out clothing and a photo she found in her coat pocket Good strong creepy spooky start Then it gets kinda corny kinda cliched kinda silly The author adds a character who believes in conspiracy theories she s funny but I felt like she was in the wrong book There s a med student who is definitely the love interest but don t get too excited Then Keira discovers she has an extra muscle that allows her to see a whole lot of ghosts hanging around that

TO HELP HER KEIRA BEGINS HERhelp her Keira begins her investigation into this woman s mysterious past My thoughts I am so glad that this is the first book of the Gravekeeper series as I ended p enjoying this book Albeit a fairly simple plot the writing and characters kept me int Thank you Poisoned Pen Press for the gifted copyThis is the first book I ve read by Darcy Coates and it will definitely not be the last And I m so excited that it also happens to be the first in a new serieswhat a homerun for me There is nothing I love than stumbling onto new series especially right at the beginning and I could not be happier with this one While it is categorized as horror which is a genre I
Don T Read A Lott read a lot I felt that this was relatively light in that area but still had some pretty spooky creepy My Mother, a Serial Killer undertones just the same Being set in a graveyard definitely makes for some eerie vibes and the ability of our main protagonist Keira to talk with and see ghosts definitely adds an extra element of creepinessI really liked Keira and am excited to explore of her character We are definitely left with a lot ofestions about her but being that this is just the beginning of a series it makes sense that we aren t given all the answers in this first book I also hope that we see of some of the characters that were introduced in this first installmentI am glad I took a chance on this bookand am curious to see where the series goes next As I wait for the next book to come out in this series I will definitely be checking out her other booksshe is The Italians Stolen Bride uite a prolific writer and has some backlist Have you read any of her books yetYou can see all my reviews at Thank you to Poison Pen Press for this advanced reader copy to review The Whispering Dead is part of a newp and coming series by Darcy Coates Keeping that in mind this book does wind The Greek Tycoons Mistress up with loose ends that are not tiedp as from what I gather these books tie into one another I ve read a few series like this and you either love them or are Tikki Tikki Tembo unsettled by the lack of resolution in each book This novel is labelled as horrorfiction but it reads as young adulthorror lite It has a creepy ominous start young woman wakesp in the woods bleeding and being hunted with no memory of who she is or wher I have been anxiously awaiting this book from Darcy Coates since I read in her newsletter that it was being released Keira awakes in the forest being pursued by men with guns She is nsure of why she is being chased and of who she is All she knows is that she needs to run to get away from the men who wish to harm her She finally sees a building and makes her way toward it She knocks on the door and Pastor Adage invites her in and hides her from one of the men who comes searching for her Pastor Adage provides a caretaker cottage surrounded by grave stones for Keira to stay in after she chooses to not stay in the parsonage with him She is afraid for his safety Her first night she sees a woman moving around outside the cottage and realizes that it is a ghost She is scared but she does realize that the ghost is asking for help Keira now tries to learn all she can about the woman buried in cemetery She finds out the name of the ghost her cause of murder and tries her best to help Emma so she can rest in peace Keira meets some friends during her time in Blighty Mason the man who dropped out of medical school not long before he would have completed his studies Zoe the lovable conspiracy nut who becomes Keira s "First Friend Gavin The " friend Gavin the doctors son and some other residents of BlightyI m not always fond of a series of books but I m so happy that this will be one I can t wait to find out who Keira really is and why she was being hunted The characters are well written and made me care about what happens to them as well as some of the ghosts still roaming USA Today bestseller and rising een of atmospheric horror Darcy Coates returns with a ghost story that will haunt you long after the final page She hears them whisperingHomeless hunted and desperate to escape a bitter storm Keira takes refuge in an abandoned groundskeeper's cottage Her new home is tucked away at the edge of a cemetery surr.
E to cheery and fun for a horror book I did love "Zoe S Character She " s character she ite funny and essentric The horror aspect of the story is very tame Its ghosty and spiritual then what I like for horror I would definitely feel comfortable with my thirteen year old reading this as a beginner horror book Though the "book leaves you with some estions the end was good I did enjoy the story and the characters and "leaves you with some Twos Company uestions the end was good I did enjoy the story and the characters and forward to the next book I hope Coates goes a little darker in the next one If someone were to go into this book not realizing it is going to be a series I wouldnderstand the disappointment Knowing it is the first in a series though I thought this book was a wonderful read with characters that I can t wait to spend time with in the future There is an His Convenient Highland Wedding underlying mystery in the book revolving around Keira a young woman who wakesp in the woods with an extreme case of amnesia and who is being chased by Secret Hideout (Cooper, unknown men This mystery is sure to be an ongoing one in future books as there is no resolution or explanation as to Keira s past I liked the character of Keira so much though that I can t wait to see how it allnfolds The magic of this book lies in the creation of its side characters that help support Keira and help to move the plot forward They are all so fun and I just loved the friendships that Keira forms with them along the way I am a big fan of books that take place in small towns especially when authors know how to se that setting to their advantage Coates obviously does because she executed the spooky background of
The Town Perfectly Making The Reader Feeltown perfectly making the reader feel a welcome visitor to all of its irks I was somewhat disappointed with the resolution of the ghost story as it was summed Regency Improprieties up a bit awkwardly and abruptly While it answered anyestions I wish it had Cinderella Bride unfolded a bit slower rather than the entire reasoning behind the haunting being expelled over a couple pagesNeedless to say I will be impatiently awaiting the next book in this series I can t wait to find out about Keira and follow along with her new occupation helping ghosts move on to the afterlife I ve been waiting to read The Whispering Dead since it was announced in the fall My excitement grew when I started getting emails from the Darcy Coates mailing list about this exciting book she had kept a secret from her readers I was intrigued for sure Just a few pages in and I was already feeling disappointed but remained hopeful I suppose this happens with all authors but The Whispering Dead is the first Darcy Coates book I have not enjoyed In fact I downright disliked The Whispering Dead It pains me to do this but here we goWe start with Keira she awakens in the woods during a storm She has no memories except for her name butickly realizes she is being chased and shot at by a group of men She runs to a nearby church and is taken in by the pastor who allows her to stay in the groundkeeper s cottage Strong start that ickly went off the rails when a whole other plot line was im Oh I struggled with my rating on this one Literally my head was like 3 4 3 4 Maybe 4 No 3See it s a very entertaining and easy breezy read It s kind of Horror Lite It s got its spooky bits that do give a bit of a chill Light gruesomeness but not too much Lots of buddy humor Remarkably light and leaves you smiling On a scale of Shirley Jackson to Edward Lee it sRL StineAnd I almost gave it four stars for sheer entertainment value and the fact that I do want to read the next bookButIt has about 800000000 loose ends This is the 1st book in the series and it s all set p for the next books We get one solution to a tiny mystery but every other loose end in the book is not only left open but the author throws some new ones in There are some books that leave you satisfied like you just finished a good meal This one It s like the waiter took your order but never brought your foodI worry about the next book As I said above I do want to read it But I m really afraid that it s going to end with loose ends no solutions and then I m going to be kind of mad I read it I m both a masochist and an optimist I ll try the next one but I ll be expecting and hoping for much ARC Provided via Net Galley.
